Arnoldstein has many facilities such as cosy bars, restaurants, but also shops, supermarkets and tennis courts. The village has about 7000 inhabitants and lies close to the adventurous Gail river.

The surroundings are ideally suited for cycling and hiking, high up in the mountains to for example the different countries, or in the flat valley to the various lakes. Just like in the rest of the Gail valley the roads and hiking trails in the village of Arnoldstein are flat and surrounded by woods and fields.

Diverse cultures within reach

The traditional village of Arnoldstein lies in the Gail valley, next to the three countries triangle of Austria, Italia and Slovenia. You are within 10-15 minutes drive in one of the two villages close to Arnoldstein in Italy and Slovenia, and will instantly experience a different cultural atmosphere. Every village has its own facilities, culinary cuisine, festivities and adventurous activities.

10 minutes driving:

  • Tarvisio, a typical Italian mountain village. It has a very big skiing area and there are many restaurants and shops, where you can enjoy yourself after skiing.
  • The Garnitzen Klamm, where you can hike adventurously between the mountains and along the water, in the hiking area of the Geotrail.

 

15 minutes driving:

  • The Slovenian Kransjka Gora, an authentic Slovenian village with many restaurants, hotels, wellness and ski slopes. Here too you can cycle, hike and perform various water and mountain sports in the wonderfully beautiful nature.
  • The warmest lake of Austria, the Presseggersee. In summer you can enjoy a swim at the pleasant beach.
  • The big lakes, such as the Faakersee, the Wörthersee and the Ossiachersee, are all located near Arnoldstein.

 

20 minutes driving:

  • The big skiing area Gerlitzen and the most modern ski arena of Carinthia, Nassfeld, with its 105 kilometre of ski slopes. Here you can indulge in all your winter sports, during daytime and evening, and afterwards end the day partying at a cosy après-ski.

Events in Dreiländereck and Villach

Silvesterabend

Big fireworks in Villach and on the city square, live music, partying an toasting together on the New Year.

Strassenkunstfestival

A festival for artists and visitors, for more than two days, every year in July. At various locations in the city you will find artists from over 10 different countries.

European Bike Week

In September every year over 100.000 motor lovers come to the Harley village. Driving around in the beautiful area, making friends, listening to live music, watching stunts and shows and at the end the Harley parade.

If you drive to Austria by car, then mind the following:
In Austria a road vignette is required for all highways! A vignette for 10 days costs about € 7,50 and is available at the border, already at German petrol stations. In Germany and Austria winter tires are mandatory.
From Germany: the highway from München direction Salzburg (A8), from there on the highway: border crossing Walserberg. A1 direction junction Salzburg, A10. From Salzburg direction Villach and from there to Arnoldstein.

Public transport

By train:
The nearest station is in Villach. From there you take a taxi for 15 minutes. This has to be arranged in advance.

By plane:
The nearest airport is Klagenfurt. This airport is frequented by the airlines TUI_Fly, Air Berlin, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.
From there you can take for example a train to Villach.
Other nearby airports and their driving distance are:

Kirchbach is an authentic Austrian village with many facilities and activities. It has a wonderful outdoor swimming pool, a cheese maker high up in the mountains and a cosy street with various facilities such as shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets down in the valley. In the valley there is also a nice children’s farm where you can enjoy the local products in an Austrian atmosphere.

Surrounding Kirchbach

Kirchbach is ideally suited for hiking and cycling in the wonderful nature with beautiful views. The roads and trails in the village itself are flat and surrounded by fields and woods. The adventurous Gail River flow through the Gail valley, close to the village.

Rich history

The mountain chain has a rich history of moving tectonic plates on the geological border with Africa. The route Passo Promollo starts close to Kirchbach and runs between Austria and Italy. It is very much recommended for making an interesting and beautiful tour.

Kirchbach has a lot of sunshine the whole year and ideal temperatures in summer and in winter

10 minutes driving:

  • The picturesque town of Hermagor, with on the other side of the mountain the Weissensee lake, where you famously can ice skate in winter.

 

15 minutes driving:

  • The warmest lake of Austria, the Presseggersee. In summer you can enjoy a swim at the pleasant beach.
  • The village of Kötschach-Mauthen:
    • Located close to the border with Italy, with an Italian restaurant, with delicious Italian dishes and Italian atmosphere.
    • Many facilities such as ski slope, tennis courts, a sauna and a wonderfully heated subtropical swimming pool. Many different shops, bars, restaurants and three supermarkets.
    • In the neighbouring village of Mauthen lies the ever quiet nature swimming pool, the climbing park, the Klamm mountain gorge, where you can hike adventurously between the mountains and along the water and the hiking area of the Geotrail.

 

135 minutes driving:

  • The Italian beach at the authentic harbour town of Grado. A day trip to the beach or a swim in the Mediterranean Sea? That is possible. When the sun goes down you can stroll through the harbour and the many romantic streets and afterwards enjoy a delicious Italian meal.

Kötschach and Mauthen are two authentic Austrian villages, close to the Mediterranean Italy. Together they have about 3000 inhabitants and have a wide range of facilities and activities. The village has ski slopes, tennis courts, a sauna, a wonderfully heated subtropical swimming pool and two cosy village centres with various shops, bars, restaurants and no less than three supermarkets.

Surrounding Kötschach

Kötschach-Mauthen lies between two mountain ranges and close to the Italian border. The roads and walking trails in the village and the resort are flat and surrounded by woods and fields. It is therefore very well suited for people with reduced mobility and for children.

In the neighbouring village of Mauthen lies the ever quiet nature swimming pool, the climbing park, the Klamm mountain gorge, where you can hike adventurously between the mountains and along the water and the hiking area high up in the mountains, the Geotrail, where you can discover the origin of the Alps for yourself.

Rich history

It has a rich history of moving tectonic plates on the geological border with Africa. The Roman trade road Via Julia Augusta ran through Kötschach-Mauthen. Along this route you will find many events, museums and archaeological remains with information signs about this period.

Kötschach-Mauthen has very pure mountain and is therefore also called an air spa. It has lots of sunshine all year round, causing it to have ideal temperatures in summer and in winter.

15 minutes driving:

  • The Italian border. There you will find an Italian restaurant with delicious dishes and Italian atmosphere.

30 minutes driving:

  • The warmest lake of Austria, the Presseggersee. In summer you can enjoy a swim at the pleasant beach.

120 minutes driving:
